The World of Firepower is back! Registration for WoF 2008 has opened in preparation for the start of the tournament in February next year. Entries for teams and team members can be made until the end of December in EF's WoF 2008 subforum.

The WoF was conceived by Hurrikane as a grander scale off-shoot to his popular
Festival of Firepower competitions. The Festival of Firepower competitions are
team-based hunting events, the idea being to blast as much ammo as you can at big mobs with weapons beyond your skill range and global more than the opposing teams. The winners of the tenth and most recent FoF, "NoTA Foffing Clue", knocked in 23 globals on Formicacida to claim 161 points during the six hour competition. A full history of the FoF can be found here.

The World of Firepower took the popular FoF idea and made it bigger. In the first WoF, over 200 avatars in teams representing 28 nations battled it out weekend after weekend. WoF globals in the chat window became a familiar sight; nearly a thousand were scored during the course of the tournament. In the thrilling finale, favourites USA managed to hold off fierce competition from Sweden and Romania in order to claim the WoF 2007 title. Apart from glory, the winning team members also won special WoF jackets created by MindArk and Modified EntropiaForum Memberships.

The return of the WoF in 2008 will be even bigger than the original and with over 30 teams registered already there's no doubt it will be the biggest team event in EU's history. The structure will be similar to last year, with teams scoring points by globalling on a range of given mobs in order to beat their opponents and progress to the next round. The biggest change will be the introduction of scoring support teams. In the 2007 tournament, support teams made a huge contribution with activities such as clearing unwanted mobs and fapping the main team members. In recognition of that, the 2008 tournament support teams will be able to score a small number of points for any globals achieved, which will contribute to the main team's score. This will introduce new tactics and increase the size of the WoF considerably by ensuring that anyone who wants to compete can compete!

Other changes include a larger variety boost for globalling on the various creatures in the moblist and a bonus mob. A team (either the main team or support team) can score a one-off 25 points bonus for globalling on the bonus mob which will be difficult to global on. Time to get practicing killing your Rippersnappers, Turps and Diripis!

Registration for WoF 2008 closes at the end of December so get your applications in now! For full details on how to register visit the WoF 2008 subforum. In January, elected Captains will choose their team members ready for the Qualifiers in February. In the Qualifiers, each team will have two hunts and the top-scoring 24 teams will progress through to the first Group Stage. After two group stages, six teams will have reached the Semi-Finals. The Semi-Finals are a straight knockout and require the use of a pilot, leaving the three winning teams to battle it out in the Final.

If you can't muster enough people to form an Earth-nation team, teams Eudoria and Amethera are available for anyone. And with the introduction of scoring support teams, everybody who wants to be involved can score points for their nations as well as helping out the main team. This is in the spirit of the original FoF, and to quote Hurrikane: "If a [support] team of noobs claim the final global that swings the difference in the Final, I couldn't be happier!".
